The Houthi air blockade on Israel continues
Sana’a
The Yemeni Armed Forces have announced that they carried out a series of missile and drone attacks targeting both Israel and U.S. military forces in the region. The operations, described as a response to ongoing aggression against Yemen and Gaza, hit several high-profile targets.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Yemeni military, said the strikes included attacks on Ramon Airport near Eilat and a target in Tel Aviv. He claimed that two suicide drones hit Ramon Airport, while another drone struck what he called an important target in Tel Aviv.
In addition to the attacks on Israel, Saree said that Yemeni forces launched a ballistic missile and multiple suicide drones at the U.S. Navy’s Carrier Strike Group 8, specifically targeting the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the northern Red Sea. According to the statement, the strikes resulted in the downing of an F-18 fighter jet and forced the aircraft carrier to retreat further north.
These actions reportedly took place just before the United States announced it would pause airstrikes on Yemen. The Yemeni Armed Forces warned that if the U.S. resumes attacks, they will respond with what they called “severe and painful” strikes.
Yemen also said it would continue its naval blockade on Israel until the Israeli military ends its assault and blockade of Gaza. The recent attacks on Israel were described as the 110th and 111th air operations carried out by Yemen against Israeli targets. The attack on the USS Harry Truman was called the 31st operation against that ship and part of a larger campaign of 212 operations against what they described as illegal vessels linked to Israel, the U.S., and the UK.
There has been no independent confirmation yet of the damage claimed by Yemen, but the operations mark a clear escalation in tensions across the region.
