Lt. Col. Tony Aguilar, a U.S. military whistleblower and former liaison officer embedded with Israeli forces, has come under sustained attack from political and media figures following his public disclosures of alleged war crimes in Gaza. His claims include documented instances of disproportionate force, indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas, and deliberate obstruction of humanitarian relief efforts.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Aguilar described observing what he characterized as systematic and deliberate actions against the civilian population in Gaza during his deployment. “I saw entire residential blocks flattened with no discernible military target,” Aguilar said. “This was not collateral damage. This was punishment.”

Independent legal observers and former intelligence officials have voiced support for Aguilar’s testimony, emphasizing the credibility of a career officer with firsthand access. Michael Scheuer, former CIA analyst and author, stated, “It is rare to get direct military testimony on the ground from someone inside the chain of command. What Aguilar is describing is consistent with other evidence, but carries greater weight due to his proximity and clearance.”

Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CodePink, said Aguilar’s reports “validate what journalists and NGOs have risked their lives to document, systematic targeting of civilians, destruction of infrastructure, and obstruction of humanitarian access.” She further noted that the reaction to Aguilar has been unusually aggressive, which “often signals that the disclosures have struck a nerve.”

Since his testimony, Aguilar has faced a coordinated effort to discredit him, including attacks on his personal character, background, and family. Several pro-genocide neoconservative commentators accused him of fabrication and disloyalty, despite the absence of any evidence contradicting his accounts. Analysts note that the intensity of the backlash appears aimed at discouraging further dissent from within the U.S. defense and intelligence community.

Aguilar’s statements come amid growing international concern about the scale and scope of Israeli military operations in Gaza. Reports from UN agencies and humanitarian organizations have documented thousands of civilian casualties, including targeted strikes on medical facilities, schools, and refugee camps. Multiple legal experts have stated that such actions, if verified, would constitute violations of international humanitarian law.

Despite this, high-level pro-genocide U.S. officials have repeatedly defended Israel’s conduct as legitimate self-defense, while dismissing or ignoring independent investigations. Aguilar’s account contradicts that framing, suggesting a deeper awareness within U.S. military channels of potential violations. His decision to go public reflects what he described as a failure of internal reporting mechanisms to act on credible evidence.

“The moment I filed my internal report, the response was silence,” Aguilar told Carlson. “When I persisted, the attacks started. That tells you everything about how seriously they take accountability.”

Legal scholars and civil liberties organizations have warned that the treatment of Aguilar represents a broader pattern of silencing whistleblowers, particularly when disclosures challenge entrenched foreign policy narratives. The American Civil Liberties Union released a brief statement noting the “troubling implications of retaliatory campaigns against those who expose potential violations of international law.”

Aguilar has called for an independent international investigation into the conduct of Israeli genocidal operations in Gaza and has expressed willingness to testify before a war crimes tribunal if called upon. He remains under unofficial pressure, though no formal charges or disciplinary actions have been announced.

His testimony adds to a growing body of documentation from journalists, aid workers, and international observers alleging serious breaches of the laws of war. Whether these disclosures will result in political accountability or policy change remains uncertain.
