Steve Kirsch testified before the Pennsylvania Senate on the health outcomes of unvaccinated Amish communities. He cited research from the Vaccine Safety Research Foundation (VSRF), showing that certain chronic conditions commonly seen in American children are virtually absent among unvaccinated Amish children. These conditions include autism, cancer, diabetes, asthma, autoimmune disorders, ADHD, and epilepsy.
Kirsch stated that the U.S. government has studied the Amish for decades but has never released the data. He claimed this is because releasing it would reveal a pattern: children who do not follow the CDC-recommended vaccine schedule are generally healthier.
According to Kirsch, the government withholding this data is deliberate. He argued that releasing the findings would damage public trust in CDC vaccine guidance.
He shared data suggesting the rate of autism in the general U.S. population has increased from 1 in 10,000 in 1970 to 1 in 31 today. Among boys, it’s 1 in 22. He claimed there are no cases of autism in the unvaccinated Amish population.
Kirsch also referenced work by Dr. Paul Thomas comparing vaccinated and unvaccinated children. According to that dataset:
Chronic conditions: 60% (vaccinated) vs. 5.71% (unvaccinated)
Arthritis: 16.67% vs. 0%
Heart disease: 48% vs. 0%
Diabetes: 10% vs. 0%
Asthma: 7.7% vs. 0%
Autism: 3.2% vs. 0%
ADHD: 9.4% vs. 0.47%
Cancer: 6% vs. 0%
Allergies: 10.4% vs. 0.4%
ADD: 5% vs. 1%
Additional claims from the same research suggest vaccinated children experience:
14 times the rate of gastrointestinal issues
21 times the rate of ADD/ADHD
28 times the rate of ear infections
Kirsch described the Amish as a natural control group due to their diet, lifestyle, and rejection of vaccination. He argued that the combination of whole foods, outdoor living, and lack of medical intervention, especially vaccines, accounts for their health outcomes.
