Maria Zakharova Blames Foreign Powers for Instigating Unrest and Destabilizing the Iranian State
Russian MFA spokesperson Maria Zakharova claimed that the West’s unlawful sanctions on Iran have hindered its development, causing economic and social strain that primarily impacts ordinary citizens. She framed these pressures as part of a broader strategy by hostile external forces to destabilize Iran by exploiting public discontent. Zakharova described these external actors as employing tactics of color revolutions using foreign-trained provocateurs to turn peaceful protests into violent riots, even resulting in the deaths of law enforcement and civilians, including children.
She condemned this external interference, emphasizing that the Iranian government had shown openness to dialogue with society to address the socioeconomic fallout of Western policies. Zakharova also rejected any military strikes or external attempts to use unrest as a pretext for aggression, warning of dire consequences for both the Middle East and global security. Furthermore, she criticized the increased trade tariffs being imposed on Iran’s foreign partners, framing them as attempts to blackmail.
