Decoding Power. Defying Narratives.

Trump’s Narrative Collides With Negotiation Reality

Behind the Scenes of Trump’s Claim That “Iran Accepted the Terms”

As the United States retreated from its attempt to add new provisions to the draft agreement, Donald Trump simultaneously escalated his threats on social media and launched a campaign to portray Iran as having surrendered under military pressure. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, that narrative does not reflect what occurred in the talks.

Approximately two weeks ago, negotiators had nearly completed a draft agreement. The text had been largely agreed upon by both sides and was awaiting final approval in Tehran and Washington. During the review process, however, Trump reportedly reversed course and demanded the addition of several new provisions, despite the fact that American negotiators had already accepted the Iranian draft.

Iran rejected the revised proposal and refused to consider the new additions, effectively disregarding the American response.

Negotiations were then further disrupted by separate incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, developments in southern Iran, and a strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, which collectively froze the diplomatic process.

According to the same sources, Qatari mediators re-entered the process on Wednesday and informed Tehran that Washington had withdrawn its new demands and returned to the original draft text. That version remains under review by Iranian authorities.

At the same time that Washington abandoned its proposed changes, Trump intensified his public rhetoric, attempting to create the impression that Iran had backed down under the threat of military action. The reality, according to these accounts, is that Iran has not yet delivered a final response, while the United States has returned to the position it held two weeks earlier.

President Trump says the war with Iran is officially over and that a peace deal will be signed in Europe. President Trump spoke with the leaders of Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia as part of the negotiations. Benjamin Netanyahu was kept out of the discussions: “We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran,” Mr. Trump said. “And we’re going to be subject to finalization of documents, we should get done over the next few days. Probably have a signing, maybe in Europe. And it’s a great thing. Stock market’s up 1,000 points. That means they like the deal.”

As Professor Mohammad Marandi stated:

While the United States made a significant concession in the text of the agreement on Wednesday and presented it to Iran through Qatari mediation, it simultaneously launched a media and intimidation campaign designed to suggest that Iran had retreated under the threat of bombardment.

In reality, Trump backed down, accepted the same text that was on the table two weeks ago, and is now waiting for final approval from Iranian officials.”

Meanwhile, reports claiming that a final draft agreement between Iran and the United States has already been completed have been rejected by Iranian media and officials.

According to Tasnim News Agency, reports by a British media outlet alleging that a final agreement had been reached are inaccurate. No finalized text has been approved.

Trump has publicly suggested that an agreement is close and claimed that Iranian officials contacted him directly to request a halt to military strikes. He also warned that military options remain available if Tehran rejects Washington’s proposal.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) rejected those claims. In a statement issued Thursday, the IRGC described Trump’s remarks as “a cover to escape war.”

Iran Embassy UK: Trump has stated 55 times that he defeated Iran. Trump has stated 35 times that Iran is destroyed. Trump has stated 38 times that a deal is imminent. Trump has stated 25 times that the Strait of Hormuz is open.

Iranian news agencies, citing security sources, likewise dismissed the claims as false. Those sources described the reports as an “absolute lie” and stated that Iran would deliver a “crushing response” to what they characterized as the latest act of American military aggression.
